About Midway airport
Midway International Airport (MDW) is a key airport serving Chicago, located about 8 miles southwest of downtown. Established in 1927 as Chicago Municipal Airport, it was renamed in 1949 to honor the Battle of Midway from World War II. The airport features a single terminal with three concourses (A, B, and C) and 43 gates, serving as a major hub for Southwest Airlines while also accommodating flights from other carriers like Delta and Frontier.
It primarily handles domestic flights but also offers services to international destinations in Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Midway is well-connected to the city via the CTA Orange Line, providing a straightforward transit option to and from downtown Chicago.
